Courtney Roby isn't going out without a fight

Stay connected for news and updates

With Colston, Moore, and Henderson as locks to take the top 3 WR positions, it has seemed like nothing more than a toss up as to who would take the next 2 WR spots. One of them of course was vacated by Robert Meachem, the deep threat 1st round pick that was allowed to walk this past offseason. So after 2 preseason games, how are things looking?

We all know what type of special teams player Roby is. But my thoughts were that we have brought in multiple decent special teams guys and brought in another one in Chamberlain so maybe the Saints could see a way to go without Roby since guys like Arrington, Toon, and Morgan all had shots at competing for 2 of those WR spots. Last season, Morgan looked like quite the prospect at KR/PR, but I haven't seen all that much of that so far.

Roby is set up in a situation to succeed, but so is Morgan. As of now, my hype for Morgan is gone. I see him as a practice squad player.

Tanner is such a long shot to make it. So regardless of how he does, I still see no better than a practice squad guy.

Considering how new Toon is to the offense, I think he will be pushed to practice squad too. I think he'll see his time on the roster, but not to start the season.

So I now think it will be Colston, Moore, Henderson, Arrington, and Roby to start the season. Roby has shown that he could play WR in a pinch for us, as I feel he looks better than he ever has catching the football. He's still a great cover guy on punts, so keeping Roby could do great things for special teams. The #4 spot of Arrington/Toon/Morgan is now the battle of interest. Because I now think Roby will once again make this team.
