Ladies and gentlemen, your 2013 NFL Pro Bowl tackles. Here's a few things I noticed:
1) Out of 9 guys, 7 of them are 1st round picks. One is a 2nd round pick. The only guy drafted after round 3 is our very own Jermon Bushrod, who will no longer be ours in a few months.
2) Every single one of those guys are starting LEFT tackles for their teams.
3) 4 of the 9 pro bowl tackles were drafted beyond 15th of the first round.
Now, some of the tackles drafted with the mentioned guys....
2006: Andrew Whitworth, 2nd round pick 55. D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Winston Justice, Daryn Colledge, and Marcus McNeil drafted ahead of him at OT. All 4 bona fide starters, 2 of those 4 have made pro bowls themselves.
2008: Lots of OTs off the board. Jake Long, Ryan Clady, Chris Williams, Branden Albert, Gosder Cherilus, Jeff Otah, Sam Baker, Duane Brown. 3 have made pro bowls, and Albert and Baker who haven't are no slouches themselves.
Maybe this is a bad draft to need a LT, but history proves that the top 3 or 4 guys in most drafts picked from the OT position usually produce right away. With all the needs at defense, do you make sure you have a top talent protecting your franchise's blind side, or do you hope Charles Brown/Zack Strief don't get Drew killed this season?
Will Lane Johnson be available? Or will the Saints have to wait for the 3rd round to find a LT? Or will our current depth be enough?
