Saints vs. Dolphins ESPN Monday Night Football 2013: Ode to the 'Phins

Sean Payton celebrates with Jimmy Buffett after defeating the Falcons on September 8, 2013 - Chris Graythen

In the spirit of friendly competition, and a tip of the hat to Phinaholic (who wrote a song about the Falcons last week)... here's a song written to a tune Miami Dolphins fans might be able to appreciate.

You may or may not have known that Jimmy Buffett is a fan of the New Orleans SaintsHere's an article on the matter. He didn't write this parody; though hopefully he could appreciate it.

To get the tune in your head (not that most Phins fans should need it), feel free to read along with the music:

Jimmy Buffett - "Phins"

They came down... from old Miami.
After three days of trying to train.
Lookin' for some way to defeat
Payton's New Or-le-ans Saints.

But the fans kept cursing Saban.
Wishin' they had Brees's arm.
Check downs, screens, and in the flats
The yards kept getting farmed.

[Chorus:]
Did you see ‘em leaving in sadness?
Did you see ‘em all depressed?
The Phins went and lost; the fans drank all night,
‘cause their team just got shut down.
Yeah the Phins went and lost; the fans drank all night.
They're not undefeated now.

---

They seemed to be in good spirits,
When they got to the Superdome.
They didn't realize that on Monday Night
The Saints don't lose at home.

Every time Drew checked to Sprolesy,
Or threw to Jimmy Graham,
Or showed the skills of Kenny Stills,
You heard groans from Miami fans.

[Chorus:]
Did you see ‘em leaving in sadness?
Did you see ‘em all depressed?
The Phins went and lost; the fans drank all night,
‘cause their team just got shut down.
Yeah the Phins went and lost; the fans drank all night.
They're not undefeated now.

---

Threw some interceptions.
Fumbled the ball on the ground.
Couldn't hear past the WHO DAT cheers
And seemed to be bumblin' around.

There's still lots of season,
with their feet back on the ground.
They couldn't beat the Saints, but that don't mean they ain't
Still gonna be playoff bound.

[Chorus:]
Did you see ‘em leaving in sadness?
Did you see ‘em all depressed?
The Phins went and lost; the fans drank all night,
‘cause their team just got shut down.
Yeah the Phins went and lost; the fans drank all night.
They're not undefeated now.

P.S. Good game Miami, and good luck the rest of the season.
