I think Peyton Manning has some years left. I can definitely see him playing a year after this one. Brees is 3 years younger. Both have had a major surgery but Brees is way past that. So I see him playing at a high level for at least another 3 years. He's intelligent enough. Then after three straight superbowls (a man's gotta dream) he may be at a point to call it quits. I believe he will keep playing, but if not what then?
Assuming we keep Payton and have a decent D-coordinate lets see what we look like. I'll list some players that could still be with us. Most positions retire by 32, except running back and tight end which are closer to 30. I'll use this to see what we have. This will also give us a good idea what we would hope to draft. I found a good article about retirement ages.
Offense (12 players)
|C||de la Puente, Brian||31|
Defense (18 players)
After seeing this I'm actually pretty impressed. We still have a good bit of talent on the team. In the next few drafts the offense will need focus. Most positions have some players there though. The O-line is the worse. If we want to give Brees some longevity we need to bring some in soon. With Payton here I feel like we'll find a way on offense to bring the right people in.
The D looks great. The D-line and Safeties will be around for a while. And if this years an indicator they have a bright future. LB and CB will need some help. I think we'll need a CB next year.
I did leave off a few players that fit my criteria. Players like Meachem who may have a harder time making it to 32. Plus we have the practice squad to hope for.
I think I finally found an AFC team to root for.
