Our Achilles Heel

I've said from before the season began our offensive line is not championship caliber and is the weak link that will keep us out of the Super Bowl. I believe this will become most evident this Sunday and I think we'll lose to New York. In our upsoming games, for the remainder of the season, I see us going 5-4 and losing to New York, Seattle, Atlanta and once to Carolina. However, I do see us meeting San Francisco in the NFC Championship game; I just don't see us beating them. My rationale is this: while our defense has played great and gotten better every weak, it is because of great coaching (which I believe SP is doing most of, schematically) as opposed to individual skill. This, I suspect, is why we're looking at Vilma coming back. I also suspect that, as opposed to our having played a 4-2-5 formation so far, I see us going to a 4-3-3 defense with Vilma dropping back, as in a Tampa 2 formation to cover the center field where we've proven most vulnerable. Of course, Vilma is hardly a great LB against the pass but his knowledge and experience will allow him to read defenses and position himself best to cover the gap between our safeties and backing up Loftin and Hawthorne. Having said that, if Brown and Graham and/or Watson don't start blocking better on the outside (not even addressing DLP and Grubbs!), the next 9 games are going to turn painful for Brees. I'd love to see Armstead, or 1 of the other young backups, make a name for himself now!
