Saints News, 11/14/13: Saints Aim to Contain Frank Gore

Chris Graythen

Several Saints players talked yesterday about how limiting Frank Gore's rushing production will be key in Sunday's game against the 49ers. They plan on playing better run defense than they did against the Jets. “Got to find a way to tackle him (Gore),” said Saints linebacker Parys Haralson. “Me and Frank are friends. Being there and knowing how he practices and being on the sidelines watching him against other defenses, you know what he brings to the table. He’s a physical runner. He’s one of the best running backs I think I’ve seen play the game of football.” In Saints injury news, today's report is again late for some reason, so stay tuned for that.

Saints Prepare for 49ers

Saints owe 49ers 'a couple knockdowns' - New Orleans Saints Blog - ESPN
"Yeah, we kinda owe them a couple knockdowns, you know what I’m saying?" said Saints guard Jahri Evans – a four-time first-team All-Pro, who isn’t used to seeing many defenses push the Saints around like that. "That’s how we feel as a team. And we know it’s gonna be physical. They know it’s gonna be physical. It’s been physical every time we play these guys. And those guys winning the last couple, we definitely feel like we gotta go out there and get the job done."

It was quite the righteous beatdown, and a much-needed dose of confidence-restoring big huge fun. The Payton/Brees Saints seem to have a knack for that kind of thing, don't they? Just when fans start collectively mumbling "oh shit" under our breath, they have a way of dropping one of these kinds of beyond-dominant performances on us and get us saying "oh shit" in a whole different context.

FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis | Word of Muth: Games Saints Play
Last week’s Sunday night game between the Saints and Cowboys was about as one-sided of an affair as you’ll see in the NFL. The Dallas defense couldn’t stop Drew Brees or anybody he happened to hand it off to, and the Saints were on the field for what seemed like an eternity. In contrast, the Cowboys offense managed to go the entire game without converting a third down. I’m sure it was an ugly game to watch live for Cowboys fans, but I would actually encourage them to watch their offense again. Watching the tape, I think there were a few positive signs up front that may provide the smallest of silver linings.
