It has been a month since the New Orleans Saints played on Sunday afternoon, and six weeks since they have played an early game. As Drew Brees said, it's nice to know that the stakes are high, and that football fans want to see our games. This weekend, the Saints have once again had their early game rescheduled; though this time it has only been pushed back to later in the afternoon. Perhaps the public is tired of seeing our boys in prime time. Or perhaps Goodell is putting his foot down, and trying to take away the edge New Orleans seems to have during prime time games. More likely, though, the networks expect the game to be less compelling than they would prefer for a prime-time feature.
If New Orleans wins this one, we are guaranteed at least one Pay-Rob game in January, even if a win won't yet guarantee us the division title. If the Saints lose this weekend, their hold over the division relies largely on the rematch against the Panthers a week later. Let's hope that the St. Louis Rams (5-8) don't have our number when the Saints (10-3) travel to play them late this Sunday afternoon. Even though the Rams have been eliminated from the playoff picture, they seem to have an embossed placard on the Saints' wall of "potential trap games."
