Lets just say some team snatched the 49ers DC after the Super Bowl to become the HC of their team. Who do you think would become their DC? More than likely Jim Tomsula, Ed Donatell or Jim Leavitt right? Lets just say some team snatched up the Ravens DC after the Super Bowl to become the HC of their team. Who do you think would become their DC? More than likely Ted Monachino, Teryl Austin or Clarence Brooks right? Now whether it be media coverage or just the sheer production these position coaches have achieved from their groups, they are hyped up by us fans, players, other coaching staffs and the media. So you might be asking now what the hell is my point. My point is, our DC was just fired and I've yet to come across 1 article, 1 fan or even 1 media football talking head that suggest that either Bill Johnson our DL coach or Joe Vitt our LB coach take over as our DC. Sean Payton our head coach has not even hinted at the idea of that happening. Now why is that?
Johnson and Vitt have been in the league since Jimmy Carter was president. In comparison, Jim Tomsula starting coaching (almost 20 years later) when Clinton got caught having "sexual relations." These two guys, moreso Vitt because he's been here longer than Johnson, have been part of our defensive problems just as much as Gibbs, Williams and Spags were. I won't go as far as saying that they are the worst DL and LB coaches in the NFL, but based on what the media, fans, NFL experts, GMs, players and more importantly the production, there're obviously better DL and LB coaches out there.
Maybe they are better "3-4" positional coaches (FYI, I'm just trying to thrown them a bone with this comment) and since we've basically been a 4-3 team, they have not been able to (I'm trying real hard at this point now) coach to their strengths. Personally, I think should have been fired a long time ago. But they are with us now, so I support them. But switching to a 3-4 this year, if we don't see improved play from the front seven.......BYE BYE.
