Because I have too much free time, I performed a full 7 round mock draft. What I learned is, it is much more difficult than I thought it would be... I found myself in the 5th round, and forgetting to put in a guy who belonged in the 2nd. But I did do my research. I used depth charts and team needs, not just blind picks. Not every pick was what I wanted, but thats how the chips fell... Because this format is so difficult, I'll write the Saints picks, and put the full rounds in the comments...
1st round - Alec Ogletree, LB, 6'3, 241 lbs. 4.70 FYD. This might be my favorite prospect in the draft. When I watch UGA play, he jumps off the screen. Has great lateral and closing speed. Very strong at point of attack. Smart football player. I know he is an ILB, and we are in search of an OLB... But as you will see, my draft has the top 4 OLBs off the board. This guy is the top MLB in the draft, and I think he would make a great OLB as well. He isn't getting much buzz on this board, but I think we would do well with this pick.
3rd round - Brandon Williams - DT, 6'1, 340 lbs, 5.37 FYD. A ton of people are pegging him to us. He is a great athlete, and very large. I think a lot of other teams will be targeting him as well, unfortunately. He could be a great addition as well.
4th round - Xavier Nixon - OT, 6'6, 315 lbs, 4.9 FYD. We can get a huge OT, with surprising athleticism here. He also has a lot of potential. Fills a big need, and gives us one of the top mid-round OTs in the class.
5th round - Quanterrus Smith, OLB, 6'5, 250 lbs, 4.69 FYD. I have been raving about this guy for a while. He is starting to gain some recognition on this board. I hope people start to check him out, although not the other teams... Could be a monster rushing off the edge.
6th round - Brandon Magee, CB, 6'0, 190 lbs, 4.4 FYD. This is a little late for a CB. But I think we get good value here. He was one of the best CBs at the senior bowl. Good athlete. Could add nice depth to our secondary.
Again, a lot of this could change with FA approaching. Let's see how we handle some positions... Tell me what yall think? Grade??
