I know everyone is on the fence about this pick and so am I. I thought for sure with Floyd and Jarvis Jones sitting there, that the Saints would take one of them. When the pick was announced, I was just like "What?....really?" I knew he was by far the best safety, but like most of you I felt that DL was a more pressing concern. And having Jones on the outside tearing it up like he did against the minor leagues of the NFL, the SEC, we would be set for a few years there. However taking a step back I can see why they choose Vaccaro. Jones is a beast, but his heath risks are very real and there is a good chance he might not be playing in a few years. Floyd is great, but we got Jenkins in the 3rd round. Granted he is not as good, but looking at the drop off from Floyd to Jenkins is a whole lot less that the drop off from Vacarro and any 3rd round Safety taken. So that makes sense there. I then began to think that maybe, just maybe the Saints have really high hopes for Wilson, Butler, and Galette. So I think they are giving them the year to prove themselves, and to be honest, Wilson and Galette have shown enough flashes of natural talent, that I think the might be what we all are hoping they will be. Plus there is still a few Free Agents out there like Abraham and Freeney, that we could pick them up on a really cheap one yr deal now that its after the draft and left over free agents tend to sign for cheap. So the more I look at it the more I like the pick. I still am a little curious is to who he will replace in the Safety, because they are financially committed to Harper for another year, and I think Jenkins is better at Safety that CB. But Payton will go with who he thinks is the better player for the team, regardless of draft position, and money owed. So I will trust his judgement. Now I am sure most of you are reading this and wondering where the new exciting info, because most of this has been discussed already. Fear not, for ask and you shall receive.
This is the Sports Science break down on Kenny Vaccaro. Dude's thighs are massive for a DB. Those of you who have never seen this on ESPN, you should really watch a few of the clips on youtube. I have no clue why people and NFL teams for that matter do not pay more attention to this. To me this is a 1000% better than some stupid combine. Sports Science breaks down actual relevant data for players according to there position. They even take the 40 yd to a whole new level. And as in a few clips it points out that over the past few years that this started all the top defensive and offensive players that tested off the charts on Sports Science, have been beast in the NFL. Its insane how right they have been about players. So watch the Clip on Vaccaro and hopefully it will show you why his pick was the right one to make and get you excited about seeing him in the Saints Secondary for years to come. Because he kills it in the tests, and scores higher than I believe any DB, not just S in this years draft, and only a few % lower than Pro-Bowl DB Joe Hayden. So enjoy.
And if anyone has posted the Sports Science about Vaccaro I'm sorry, i didn't see any before I posted this.
