City of New Orleans Celebrates 295th Birthday

New Orleans was founded on May 7th, 1718.

Just wanted to take a moment to wish the wonderful city that many of us call home a very happy birthday. New Orleans turns 295 years young today.

The city was founded May 7, 1718 by the French Mississippi Company, under the direction of Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville, on land inhabited by the Chitimacha. It was named for Philippe d'Orléans, Duke of Orléans, who was Regent of France at the time.

Since then it's developed into the most kick ass city on American soil and become the home to the best football team ever, the New Orleans Saints.

We love you, New Orleans. Thanks for being you.
