Saints News 6/13/13: NFL Adopts New Policy of 'No Bags Allowed' At NFL Stadiums

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Looks like fans will no longer be allowed to express frustration with their sucky team by wearing paper bags on their heads. That's only a byproduct of the new policy (including purses) that appears to have been adopted for safety reasons and to lesson the time security must spend to inspect items brought into stadiums. There are some exceptions to the new rule, however. In other news, former Saint Sedrick Ellis says in an interview that the Saints' defensive schemes the past two years were holding back his productivity. He expects to do better with the Bears.

CHICAGO: Dan Pompei: Ellis no longer fit Saints style but has type of potential Bears seek - Football Wires -
"They allow their guys to do what defensive linemen are supposed to do, and that's rush the passer and get sacks and put pressure on the quarterback while playing the run on the way," he said. "I haven't had the chance to do that the last couple of years, so I'm excited about that."

All players and teams would benefit from further guidance and negotiation from the league and the NFLPA. This year, too many players are suffering serious injuries during non-contact practices, and now the Saints have to scramble to replace Butler.

New bag policy applies only to bags | ProFootballTalk
The league's new policy regarding bags brought to stadiums has, so far, generated more of a reaction than we expected. So let's write more stuff about it.

League alters bag policy for safety, convenience | ProFootballTalk
Fans will be encouraged to bring no bags of any kind to NFL stadiums. Starting with the 2013 preseason, only certain bags will be permitted. Specifically, the bags must be clear, and they must be made of plastic, vinyl, or PVC. The dimensions may not exceed 12 inches by six inches by 12 inches. Alternatively, fans may bring a one-gallon Ziploc (product placement!) freezer bag. Fans are limited to one bag each. Teams will be encouraged to make clear bags available for their belongings. Binoculars, phones, and cameras can be carried in to the stadium. Coincidentally, clear plastic tote bags bearing official NFL team logos are available for purchase.
