Saints News 6/17/13: Atlanta Radio Hosts Take Stupidity To New Level By Mocking ALS-Stricken Steve Gleason

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sport

WOW! Just WOW! The hosts of "Mayhem in the AM" on Atlanta's 790 The Zone made the very poor choice of airing a mock interview segment this morning that poked fun at Gleason and used a robotic voice to portray things they thought he might say. The worst part was apparently when the hosts wondered aloud if Gleason would be alive next week. These three hosts have been suspended indefinitely by the radio station. What a bunch of dumb-asses! This classless stupidity was apparently conceived when the hosts saw Gleason's guest MMQB segment at this morning. By the way, I highly recommend everyone read Gleason's MMQB. Very inspiring! If nothing else, the stupidity of these radio hosts may actually help the public become more aware of ALS, which is a goal Gleason skillfully writes about in his MMQB article.

As a player, Steve Gleason is best remembered for blocking a punt in the Saints' return to New Orleans a year after Hurricane Katrina, a blocked punt that spurred his team to a victory over the Falcons. He'll always be beloved in New Orleans for that.

The radio show's hosts apparently pretended Gleason was a caller to the show, played a robotic voice that gave responses (Gleason uses a synthetic voice to speak) and wondered if Gleason would still be alive by next week.
