Today was good day, the last day of mini camp, got a great spot in the shade, then let the whole thing just soak in. While most of you chumps are at work, I'm staking out the player's Port a Potty like some kinda Paparazzi, and it's free retractable Saints sign day to boot, ain't life grand!
I can't let these things distract me. I'm here on a mission, must focus, must find something to focus on, and then suddenly, as if out of some B movie, enter stage left, a young man wearing a football uniform slowly walking out on to the deserted field. It seemed Hitchcockean, if there is such a thing .
A big group of fans squeezed in to a little strip of field. This lone player on this vast plain, slowly walking to, than sitting on, an Ice chest. All alone surrounded by all these people. No one seemed to notice, after all it wasn't Drew Brees, but to me he was a major reason to be here. He is one of the guys fighting for a spot on Drew's blind side, Charles Brown.
He had the 1000 yard stare, he kinda freaked me out, This guy just might be "the guy".
Terron Armstead on the other hand was not as intense, I think I caught the moment he was told he was a no go today. Then after a 20 minuet one on one coaching session, most of which I could actually hear, sadly, headed off to train for the Tour De France with Ben Watson in tow, figures the two guys at the top of my list are riding bikes.
Another reason to be here is the battle for the back up quarterback spot, and I have say I was wrong about Ryan Griffin's arm strength. He really threw the ball well today, Including a really tight fitting out. I still think he's a practice roster guy, and a year in the weight room will help, but today was his day.
If Nick Toon can tighten up his field awareness and his hot reads, and Joe Morgan can refrain from being Captain Morgan, the receiving core should be fine.
The Saints may want a bigger role for Mark Ingram. I know, I know, everyone Is saying "with Ivory gone Mark will get his touches", but that's not what I'm saying. He really looked good catching the ball out of the backfield. Who knows but it wouldn't surprise me to see him catch more passes, but it may surprise some teams.
Special thanks to Lauren, who allowed me to take the time to bask in the glory, And this pics for Stu
