"I Need More Pierre Thomas"

That's right. I don't need more cowbell. I need more Pierre Thomas. I have to admit, I am a fan of a RB that I feel has not been used enough in the past 2 seasons. It's been said here that this team is simply more successful when the running game is clicking. Pierre is not a flashy RB, but he seems to do everything well enough to deserve more playing time than he has received in the past 2 seasons.

Since the arrival of Mark Ingram, Pierre Thomas has received 10 or more carries in only 3 of his past 31 regular season games played. During that time, he averages nearly 5 yards per carry. Even in limited duty, he has 89 receptions in 2 seasons and is possibly one of the best receivers out of the backfield in the NFL. He runs hard and has proven to be tough to take down. Has the addition of Mark Ingram held him back or will the trade of Chris Ivory open up opportunity for Thomas this season?

In 2009, Pierre Thomas had 10+ carries in 9 of 13 games in which he registered a carry. He finished that season averaging 5.4 YPC, including 10 of 13 games where he had a rush for 10+ yards in the game. Things looked excellent for PT, but 2010 was a let down.

Since then, I feel like Pierre has not had the opportunity to lead the Saints to a victory. There is no question that PT is talented. But for some reason, PT has always been the 3rd (even 4th) wheel. Why is that?

Could this be the season that the Saints finally use Pierre more to motivate Ingram? Thomas' stats per play are far better than Ingram's right now, so will we finally see Thomas get his faIr shot? Will the team continue to favor their 1st rounder over a guy who has proven that he can get the job done?

The link explains that Ingram is now 3rd team. I don't think that talk about this matters in June, but I sure hope that this will be the season that the Saints use Pierre because he hasn't had the carries since his injury. He's only 28, so he still has some good years left. Ride the hot hand Sean. Give PT a shot this year.

Do you think PT will get more chances this year? Will it be another year of feeding Ingram more carries? What do you think should happen?
