Have you seen the latest delicacy to emerge from the hallowed halls of haute cuisine in Louisiana? You've got to see it to believe it! More than 30 Louisiana-area locations are selling it, so find one near you and GET ONE.

Who Dat Burger

This was the subject line of an email I received from my Dad on Tuesday night earlier this week. Intrigued, I clicked on it, and found this text staring me in the face, along with the accompanying image.

And who is the first in our area to chomp down on Sonic's new Who Dat Burger? Comes with Tabasco Mayo, Cajun fried onions, & a packet of Tony Chachere's. Oh, & an edible Who Dat logo!

Both my curiosity and my Canal Street Chronicles writing instincts kicked in right away, so I emailed my brief interview questions back to him.

Looks delicious! How'd it taste? Could you taste that logo at all? Don't be surprised if it appears on CSC this weekend...

To which he responded:

It was good and you can't taste the logo....don't know how it is applied.
Fenner replied to the picture of me with the Who Dat burger "what a blatant way the get your picture on the Internet!!" ... Reply " what else did you expect"

Might have some Who Dat burgers waiting for you????

See ya Friday

Fenner is my Dad's childhood friend (as you may recall from the True Hollywood Story of My Mom and Dad Meeting Jim Henderson in April of 2012) and he likes to give my Dad crap about whoring himself out for Internet fame on CSC all the time. And my Dad is not shy about admitting this.

So when I got to their condo in Perdido Key yesterday for the start of my Mom's birthday weekend, I discovered what the last part of his message meant, first seeing this box of empty burger boxes (not used ones, though - they are clean):

I asked my Dad why he had all these boxes, and he directed me to the refrigerator, where I saw this bag of buns, which it turns out, is all for me...

Here's how the official presentation of the bun in the box looks. If you look closely enough you can see the drink coupon sticker holding the Tony Chacheres' seasoning packet to the top of the box.

I've got five of these burger box/bun combos, so let me know if you want one. I'm still working on how I'm going to get them into my carry-on luggage for the flight back to Louisville.

Checking the Interwebs, I found this August 22 story on The Who Dat Burger from the It explains that the bun logo is made from edible food coloring, and it contains a promotional image showing a large side profile of the burger itself.

The piece also describes the burger and lets you know the time frame of availability:

...Tabasco-spiced mayonnaise, "Onion Tanglers" and pepper jack cheese. Each order comes with a pack of Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning to use as you see fit.

The Who Dat burger goes on sale Aug. 26 at nearly 35 locations in the state. It will remain on the menu for the rest of the year.

And there you have it, the latest in a long line of ways to show your New Orleans Saints love. For those of you in the area, how big of a deal is this? Has there been any print/tv/radio ad campaign to speak of? Will you actually eat one of them?
