Saints News, 9/19/13: Saints Rank Dead Last In Red Zone TDs

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

And yet they are undefeated so far this season. That's a credit to the improved defense under Rob Ryan. No doubt red zone TD efficiency has been a point of emphasis this week at Saints practice and we will see that stat improve soon. In other news, the Saints' injury report remains mostly the same as yesterday with the only difference being DE Glenn Foster put in a limited practice today. Mark Ingram missed his second consecutive practice with a toe injury.

It's been fashionable this week to compare the first two games of this season to past seasons in an effort to draw incredibly premature parallels upon which to base incredibly premature conclusions about where this season might be headed.

Drew Brees didn’t mince words Wednesday when describing Bucs safety Dashon Goldson as a player intent on injuring other players, all but directly calling him dirty.

The People Vs. Mark Ingram - Who Dat Social Club
The indictment against Ingram is this: he ain’t no good. The guy who rumbled and butted his way to 1,658 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2009—a gaudy 6.1 ypc—and won the Heisman Trophy doing it, has yet to match that total as a pro. In two seasons and two games, he has only 1,107 yards to his credit, and his ypc is an anemic 3.8. Worse, in the first two games of 2013 his ypc is a horrendous 1.8. Teammates like Drew Brees and Zach Strief defend him, but fans wonder why Pierre Thomas is able to post a 5.1 ypc running behind the same line.

FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis | Film Room: Revis / Hopkins
The first example of the Buccaneers misusing Revis came in the first quarter. The Saints had the ball on their own 44 facing a first-and-10. They set up with two tight ends to the left of the offensive line and a receiver wide on either side. Barron, the safety to the bottom of the screen, is closer to the line of scrimmage than Goldson on the other side of the field. This is because both tight ends are on his side of the field, but he is still deep enough that the Buccaneers are showing off a Cover-2 look.
