What does "Who Dat" mean?

I visited New Orleans this past spring- loved it there! Great weather, great food and camping in Westwego was lovely- at least compared to Pittsburgh at that time of the year. However, what I found most interesting was the city's obsession with football and the Saints. I understand the city has a lot of French heritage with fleur de lis' adorned everywhere, but it seems like the Saints sponsor a lot of local events and concerts. I wasn't sure if it was coincidental, or if they actually are deeply involved with the community.Regardless, I can't help but make a few connections with the Steel city and the big easy- especially this week considering the Saints and Steelers are playing each other this next week.

Which brings me to my question, what's the significance behind "who dat"? I heard it all the time I was at NOLA; anyone care to elaborate? Thanks!

Also, if you have any questions about the Steelers from a fan's perspective, feel free to ask below in the comments. Anyways I look forward to the game Sunday.
