More often than not, over the past nine years, the New Orleans Saints have spent Christmas preparing for the playoffs and contending for a run at the title. 2014? Well, not so much. Rather than playing the role of Santa Claus for Who Dat Nation, the Saints have been more a cross between Ebenezer Scrooge and The Grinch. Well, just because we're not having much fun watching the Saints doesn't mean we can't have a little fun this Christmas singing about their pitiful season.
In honor of one of the all-time great Christmas classics, Andy Williams' 1963 hit song "It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year", Canal Street Chronicles presents the Saints' 2014 version.
"It's The Most Pitiful Time of the Year"
It's the most pitiful time of the year
At the TV you're yelling
While everyone's telling you, "Drink some more beer"
It's the most pitiful time of the year
This, the crap-crappiest season of all
With the victories fleeting, we're witnessing beatings
That have us appalled
In this crap-crappiest season of all
***
The linebackers were roasted
The corners were toasted
My God, did that whole defense blow
Yet we yearn for old stories
And tales of the glories
From Super Bowls five years ago
***
It's the most pitiful time of the year
So much liquor was flowing
Remote controls throwing
Had loved ones in fear
In this most pitiful time of the year
***
While the offense once coasted
This o-line was roasted
The age of the offense did show
Yet we yearn for old stories
And tales of the glories
From Super Bowls five years ago
***
It's the most pitiful time of the year
Though we all need consoling
The heads will be rolling
On Airline next year
It's the most pitiful time
Yes the most pitiful time
Oh the most pitiful time of the year!

Sing along with the classic here, and have a Merry Christmas, Who Dat Nation!
