Saints News, 2/21/14: Saints Generate Talk, Both Good & Bad, At NFL Combine

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

The Good: Thomas Morstead's mentoring of a combine prospect. Also, the qualities of former Saints QB coach and current Lions OC Joe Lombardi. The Bad: Raiders head coach Dennis Allen was asked about former Saint Darren Sharper and the sexual assault allegations against him. Allen responded that he was "shocked." In a related ESPN article, several former teammates of Sharper also responded that they were "shocked and disgusted" over the allegations. The Saints are the only NFL team not scheduled to meet with the media at an organized news conference during the scouting combine this week.

Over the last 2 years, my friend Craig Turner has done compensatory pick projections very accurately for my former football blog. Last year, he correctly matched 24 teams with the correct round for which they received a pick. He projected an additional 5 teams to receive a pick, but missed by just one round. The 3 remaining picks he missed on were due to some gray area, which he learns from every year.

So how does Cardinals coach Bruce Arians view a tight end's job responsibilities? The subject came up at the NFL Scouting Combine on Friday, and Arians made his stance clear. "The tight end for me, I'm old school. You've got to block first and catch passes," Arians said.
