The Real reason why Jimmy Graham’s dunk is banned & Packers keep the leap

Years ago the NFL use to be a fun place to play. Players could do the Worm, the Moonwalk and other classic dances after scoring a touchdown. Fast forward to the summer of 2014 and the goal post dunk was no longer deemed safe or untouchable by the NFL’s competition committee. In the end the dunking of the football over the post was deemed illegal. Why? How could this be? The goal post dunking was always considered grandfathered in with the Lambeau Leap in 2000. The Lambeau Leap was born in an instant in 1993 when Hall of Famer Reggie White recovered a fumble from the then LA Raiders ran down the field and proceeded to lateral the ball to LeRoy Butler. Butler then made his way to the end-zone and then the first ever Lambeau leap into the stands.

That’s common knowledge, well reported and well-known. What many people don’t know is who is on the NFL’s competition committee. Take a look at the names and where they come from.

Chairman: Rich McKay (Atlanta Falcons)
Jeff Fisher (St. Louis Rams)
Stephen Jones (Dallas Cowboys)
Marvin Lewis (Cincinnati Bengals)
John Mara (New York Giants)
Mark Murphy (Green Bay Packers)
Ozzie Newsome (Baltimore Ravens)
Rick Smith (Houston Texans)
Mike Tomlin (Pittsburgh Steelers)

Why do these men mean so much to the game? They with the help of Roger Goodell, shape the game we all love. Their goal is to maintain discipline with the enforcement of rules, over view of existing rules and new rule proposals. The "Jimmy Graham rule" was born out of the combination of the retirement of iconic tight end former Falcon Tony Gonzalez and Graham’s dunking antics against the Falcons. The worry as discussed by Jeff Fischer was player safety. Let’s see what Jeff said in an interview this past March: -------->>>>>>>. http://wp.me/p1HHtn-127
