ESPN ranks Coby Fleener signing as one of the best moves this offseason

2

"Indianapolis Colts general manager Ryan Grigson had a tough decision. He had to choose between Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen. He signed Allen, who is the more complete player. Fleener goes to the New Orleans Saints and should flourish in a Sean Payton offense that was looking for a young, fast tight end who can fill in for what they missed after the Jimmy Graham trade. In the end, both teams ended up with the best tight ends for their franchise." --- [ESPN]

PFF says Sheldon Rankins is a good fit for the Saints

+

"His height (6-1) and weight (299 pounds) might scare some 3-4 teams, but there is little doubt in my mind after watching him play head up on tackles last season that Rankins can do it all and did just that at Louisville. If you’re a 4-3 team that plays sides with their defensive tackles or a 3-4 team that gets creative with its fronts, Rankins is your guy. Over the past two seasons, only DeForest Buckner has a higher overall grade on the interior." --- [PFF]

Saints will move Erik Harris to safety

+

"The New Orleans Saints signed CFL product Erik Harris to play safety, general manager Mickey Loomis said. Harris, who was listed at 6-3, 220 pounds, played linebacker in the CFL, but he has the speed and versatility to roam the defensive backfield. A good athlete for his size, Harris has 4.57 speed in the 40-yard dash, and he had 43 tackles and two interceptions last season." --- [The Advocate]

It's been 10 years since the Saints signed Drew Brees

+

"Ten years ago today, the New Orleans Saints made one of the greatest free-agent scores in NFL history -- maybe the greatest -- when they brought in quarterback Drew Brees to revive a struggling franchise, help rejuvenate a city that had been ravaged by Hurricane Katrina and resurrect his own career in the wake of a devastating shoulder injury. Since then, Brees has led the Saints to their first Super Bowl win, practically set fire to the NFL record book and earned prestigious accolades for his off-the-field impact on the region." --- [ESPN]
