Da Chronic Podcast: Offseason Survival Series
This week Ralph, Dave and Kevin give final thoughts on Da Chronic's Got Talent and begin to dread Sundays with no football. They also try to figure out if our expectations for Steve Spagnuolo are too high because Gregg Williams delivered a Super Bowl winning defense in his first year on the job.
Which Saint is likely to get overpaid in free agency and be a bust? Would fans be upset if a Saints player got crazy drunk and partied hard after the Saints lost the Super Bowl like Rob Gronkowski? Everyone discusses an underrated New Orleans dish and Ralph admits his love of chocolate sno-balls and condensed milk. HARD CORE FOOTBALL TALK TO THE MAX.

Franklin and Rogers: Should They Stay or Should They Go Now?
The Saints have some decisions to make regarding the interior of their defensive line this off-season. More specifically, regarding Shaun Rogers and Aubrayo Franklin, the two veteran free agent defensive tackles they signed to one-year deals last off-season.
I think it's safe to say neither player met the expectations we all had for them, particularly Franklin, who came to New Orleans highly touted. Was Gregg Williams' system simply too complicated for the first year players to pick up? Or have they just lost a step? Here are their 2011 stats:

What Up With Dat?: Short and Sweet
Below are my answers to last weeks reader questions submitted Thursday. Special thanks to all those that participated. Feel free to continue the discussion on any of these topics in the comment section below.

Is Will Smith gone? - Sylvain G.
Personally, I think so. If the Saints really are tight against the cap and need to free up some money, Smith's $7 million contract is a fair place to start. He's also due a $1 million roster bonus on March 27th. Unless Smith is willing to re-negotiate or the Saints are able to work some magic with this cap carryover loophole, he'll probably be a casualty.
New CBA gives teams the right to carry over cap space automatically | ProFootballTalk
Under Article 13, Section 6(b)(v) of the CBA, each team may carry over any remaining cap room from one year to the next by submitting written notice, signed by the owner of the team, to the league office no later than 14 days before the start of the next league year. The written notice must indicate the maximum amount of cap room that the team wishes to shift from one cap year to the next.
Anyone know how much cap room we could potentially carry over?
The Fate of Shawn Payton
On January 28, I linked to a nola.com story about one interestingly named Detroit Lions fan, Shawn Payton, whom law enforcement officials had questioned in relation to a pair of threatening phone calls made to the Louisiana Superdome during the Saints-Lions playoff game on Wild Card Saturday.
Well, it's now two weeks later, and the Wheels of Justice have continued turning. Friday saw an update of Shawn Payton's legal status appear from the Associated Press on the sunherald.com (Biloxi-Gulfport and South Mississippi's news leader).
Given the interest this drew the first time around (at least from me), I feel it is my blogger-journalistic duty to stay on top of this story and keep you apprised of the details of it.

Will Smith Agreed! RT @BillyMiller83: "@iWillSmith: What's your favorite Mardi Gras parade?"-- The one after we won the Super Bowl hahaha
For those of you that live in the New Orleans area, be sure to come out and catch the Krewe of Caesar parade tonight on the traditional Metairie route. I will be on Float #11, neutral ground side, bottom level. Anyone with a "Dave" or "Canal Street Chronicles" sign gets hammered with beads.
