CSC Community Mock Draft: The Atlanta Falcons Select...

With the twenty-fourth pick in the Canal Street Chronicles community mock draft, the Atlanta Falcons select...

Clint Sintim, LB, Virginia

Nothing that has happened over the last couple of months has changed my belief that Sintim is the best fit for the Falcons at 24. Having lost two starting outside linebackers in free agency and in desperate need of an upgraded pass rush, the team could do a lot worse at this spot than a guy who can start at outside linebacker in his first year and gets to the quarterback with the best of them.

Most importantly, though, is that Sintim has the potential to be a complete player. Average combine numbers aside, he clearly possesses the football intelligence and athleticism to be an asset in coverage and against the run. He already tackles well--a must for the ranting lunatic who runs SBN's Falcons blog--and he'd be a fantastic complement to second-year middle linebacker Curtis Lofton, who already looks like a budding star. The Dirty Birds have made their living off of strong linebacker play for years now, and I see no reason that should stop now. Sintim is the pick, and if we're lucky he and Drew Brees will get to know eachother very well next year.

CSC Community Mock Draft: The New England Patriots Select...

With the twenty-third pick in the Canal Street Chronicles community mock draft, the ew England Patriots select...

Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State

Here at CSC, we are all familiar with Jenkins. He's been at the top of our draft boards for the past couple years. He's got the size and ability to succeed in the NFL. I don't feel the need to elaborate on that. We like him. We want him. But in case you forgot, diehardbermysaints made a great FanPost enumerating the 3 reasons to pick Jenkins.

Some may argue LB is the Patriots most pressing need. However, with Maualuga and Cushing off the board, I don't believe the Pats should reach for Lauranitis, Matthews, or Sintim at this point. Each one of them would fill a nice need for the Pats; Lauranitis with the leadership, Matthews with the pass rush, and Sintim with the experience in the 3-4. Despite this, one of them should still be available when the Pats pick again at #34, making Jenkins a better value for this pick. Aside from that, a nucleus of Mayo and Adalius Thomas is still serviceable when surrounded by midlevel talent. I don't really see the Patriots going any other direction here. Their offense is solid. The top OL prospects are gone. Their pass rush and defensive line could use some work, but I think that need would be better fulfilled later this draft. So, this pick came to the man us Saints fans have longed for since Jason David first stepped on the field in black and gold. It's a damn shame I had to give him to the Patriots.

CSC Community Mock Draft: The Minnesota Vikings Select...

This pick and analysis was written by CSC member SaintsDynasty. Thank you, once again, for your participation!

That's a big dude. (Photo Source)

With the twenty-second pick in the Canal Street Chronicles community mock draft, the Minnesota Vikings select...

Eben Britton, OT, Arizona

Looking at the Vikings, there are several areas of "depth" concern, however no major areas of "we need to take this player in first round." QB, OL, WR, DB are all needs. However, having acquired Sage "Rosencopter" Rosenfels from the Texans and having young players like Tyrell Johnson ready to step in at safety, and solid, albeit, average players at CB behind their probowler Winfield, OL and WR become their two top needs. With top receiving prospects such as Heyward-Bey and Britt available at this juncture, it was tempting. Furthermore, all the top C prospects were still available as well as 1st round tackle prospects Beatty and Britton. Considering the Vikings have Jonathan Sullivan ready to step in for Birk, OT is the obvious choice. If anyone has ever seen a Vikings game, you'd have seen what an abomination Ryan Cook was. The man cannot play. Period. Britton has the talent to play RT from day one and eventually move over to the left side when McKinnie is let go. Britton brings the ability to play both sides and a mean streak the Vikings line needs to go along with Hutchinson. Some of you may disagree saying that WR is a greater need, but they have solid starters in Rice and Berrian and there is a much larger market for offensive lineman than there is for WR's. It was a tough choice, but when it comes down to it, Britton makes the most sense.

CSC Community Mock Draft: The Detroit Lions Select...

This pick and analysis was written by CSC member SaintsDynasty. Thank you very much for your participation and for filling in on the spot!

Freeman will be charged with saving a franchise.  (Photo Source)

With the twentieth  pick in the Canal Street Chronicles community mock draft, the Detroit Lions select...

Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State

Having selected the best pass protector in the draft to watch the blindside at #1 the Lions look to add a top talent at quarterback and do just that by selecting Freeman. With a new head coach and GM, the Lions want a face of their franchise and Freeman can bring just that. Freeman brings the ability to make all the throws and can put some mustard on the ball. While prone to some poor decisions at times, he can make plays with his legs and open things up down field by extending the play; last year alone he scored 14 rushing TD's to go along with 400+ yards. Furthermore, had 20 TD's only to 8 INT's, showing he is improving on previous totals and fixing the inconsistencies that plagued him the first two years of his college career.

Additionally, with QB's such as Culpepper still on the roster he will have some time to become acquainted with the new system in Detroit and work on correcting some of the small mistakes that are in his game. Overall, the Lions are ecstatic to see the Bucs pass on Freeman and are excited to see what he can do in the NFL.

CSC Community Mock Draft: The Tampa Bay Bucaneers Select...

This pick and analysis was written by CSC member Steve the fan. Thank you very much for your participation!

Isn't his name backwards?  (Photo Source)

With the nineteenth pick in the Canal Street Chronicles community mock draft, the Tampa Bay Bucaneers select...

Peria Jerry, DT, Ole Miss

The Bucs went through many changes this off-season mostly on the defensive side of the ball. They have needs at LB, QB and DL. However the recent Byron Leftwich signing shores up the QB position relinquishing the need to select one in the draft. Several good LB's are left on the board. But the defensive line gave up tons of yards and needs an infusion of talent. That talent comes in the form of DT Peria Jerry.

Peria Jerry started all 12 games at DT for Ole Miss in the SEC. He collected 2nd and 3rd team All SEC honors. Jerry is a solid leader on and off the field. He put forth a strong showing at the Senior Bowl as well. Many of his relatives are NFL players.

Peria Jerry is 6-2 and 290 lbs and has a college career line of 38 games played with 132 tackles (33 for loss) and 11.5 sacks. His positives are an explosive first step, an ability to shed blockers and a great motor. Conversely, he is an older prospect (he will be 25 at draft time), lacks ideal size, and has an injury history.

CSC Community Mock Draft: The Denver Broncos Select...

This pick and analysis was written by CSC member SaintsDynasty. Thank you very much for your participation!

Jackson is a local product. It's cold in Denver.  (Photo Source)

With the eighteenth pick in the Canal Street Chronicles community mock draft, the Denver Broncos select...

Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU

The Broncos are ecstatic to find Tyson Jackson here and are determined to nab a cornerstone of their 3-4 defense. They could've gone CB here with the top prospects still on the board, or OLB. However with many top prospects at CB and OLB likely to still be available in round two, Jackson has to be the pick here. He racked up 4.5 sacks with 10.5 tackles for a loss last year and has an amazing bull rush making him a prefect end in the 3-4. While lacking elite pass rushing skills, it should not be a problem as a 3-4 end because he has the power and drive to an all star at the position. He can hold his ground very well which will help his LB's get in to stop the run. Jackson has average speed (5.00 40-yard) and strength (20 reps) but has unmatched toughness and determination which will make him a very successful NFL player. It is a no-brainer pick here; he is THE TOP 3-4 player available and will make the Broncos very happy. He can start day one and will help the Broncos horrid defense.

CSC Community Mock Draft: The San Diego Chargers Select...

This pick and analysis was written by CSC member Walter FTW. Thank you very much for your participation!

The next Junior Seau?  (Photo Source)

With the sixteenth pick in the Canal Street Chronicles community mock draft, the San Diego Chargers select...

Rey Maualuga, LB, USC

While the Chargers also need to address their sieve of a secondary (and O-line), their lack of a pass rush was clearly the problem, not the skill of the corners involved (Thorpe award winner Antoine Cason, the Chargers' first-round pick of last year's draft, shows considerable promise as well as their proven starters). Losing Shawne Merriman probably cost the Chargers a run at the Super Bowl this year, and revealed the deciencies in their linebacking corps.

Speaking of deficiencies, starting inside linebacker Matt Wilhelm was exposed as one of the worst starting defenders in the NFL, equally unable to cover, tackle, blitz inside, or call plays. Rey Maualuga on the other hand, winner of the Chuck Bednarik award for best defender in college football last year, can do all of those things equally well. He's an extremely underrated cover man, possessing great range and instincts when rotating zones. He's probably the surest tackler in the draft besides Aaron Curry. As Juice Williams could tell you, he's an outstanding blitzer on the inside (a huge deficiency for the Chargers last year) and hits so hard he can knock the toenails off of people. Finally, while he was at USC he played in a very similar 3-4 system to the one Ron Rivera runs at San Diego, and could immediately contribute a la Lofa Tatupu as a zone-blitz linebacker.

There's plenty of discussion about finding another consistent running back to be an understudy to LDT (Knowshon Moreno, specifically) but if you guys don't know how I feel about the halfback position by now, it's that no halfback (besides Barry Sanders, the best ever) transcends a bad o-line. San Diego needs to address their interior o-line to pull for LDT, and there's no guard or center who's worth a first-round pick in this draft. San Diego, like Seattle and New Orleans, was a team plagued by injuries, and as a result was really better than their record; they have few weaknesses, and Rey Maualuga is the safest pick to fix their biggest one.

CSC Community Mock Draft: The Houston Texans Select...

This pick and analysis was written by CSC member diesel0772. Thank you very much for your participation!

Talk to the hand.  (Photo Source)

With the fifteenth pick in the Canal Street Chronicles community mock draft, the Houston Texans select...

Chris "Beanie" Wells, RB, Ohio State

Ever since the Texans franchise began in 2002 when they drafted former John Curtis and Ohio State alum Jonathan Wells in the 4th round, they've been searching for a powerback. Well here they get one with another Wells from OSU, Beanie Wells. The Texans suprisingly got a very productive rookie campaign out of 3rd round pick Steve Slaton but they believe the addition of Wells would give them a dynamic duo similar to Carolina's Williams and Stewart combo. Though they may go safety or cornerback with this pick, I believe they can get good value players at those positions in the 2nd or 3rd rounds, whereas the running back talent pool isn't nearly as deep.
