2011 CSC Community Mock Draft
2011 NFL Mock Draft: The Pittsburgh Steelers Select...
With the thirtieth pick of the 2011 CSC Community Mock Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers (represented by WVPiratesfan) select...
Ras-I Dowling, CB, Virginia
If there is one thing that this year showed the Steelers, it's that their defensive secondary just isn't going to cut it. The current line up of Ike Taylor, Bryant McFadden, Willie Gay, Troy Polamlu and LSU Alum Ryan Clark needs some help. Outside of Ike and Polamalu , the Steelers need to upgrade at those positions. While it could come from Crez Butler or Kennan Lewis, Butler spent most of his time inactive and Lewis tended to lose his temper, costing the Steelers valuable penalty yards.
2011 NFL Mock Draft: The New York Jets Select...
With the thirtieth pick of the 2011 CSC Community Mock Draft, the New York Jets (chosen by jful/compiled by Dave Cariello) select...
Akeem Ayers, OLB/DE, UCLA
2011 NFL Mock Draft: The Chicago Bears Select...
With the twenty-ninth pick of the 2011 CSC Community Mock Draft, the Chicago Bears (represented by GRIZZ) select...
Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin
The Chicago Bear's offensive line was a disaster this past year, allowing Jay Cutler to be sacked seemingly at the defenses will. Fifty-two times he was sacked, more than any quarterback in the league and twelve more than second place Joe Flacco. During Cutler's three years in Denver he got sacked 51 times, since then (2 years in Chicago) that number has soared to 87! Now that's a quarterback that needs some protection...and along comes young Gabe Carimi to save his crying butt.
Carimi could possibly step in and start right away, I'm no Bears fan, but I can tell you I've never even heard of Frank Omiyale or J'Marcus Webb (and I don't trust anyone named J'Marcus or any spelling of that name). The inside of the line isn't too bad with an aging Olin Kreutz at center, Chris Williams and Roberto Garza on either side of him. If they can also pick up a RT (or LT depending on how Carimi progresses) during free agency, this line could do a complete 180*.
2011 NFL Mock Draft: The New England Patriots Select...
With the twenty-eighth pick of the 2011 CSC Community Mock Draft, the New England Patriots (represented by FriarBob) select...
Aldon Smith, DE, Missouri
As I detailed in the previous pick for the Patriots, they were still a very good team -- they did go 14-2 after all -- but they did have some help from a weak division and a weak schedule. The Bills were a joke and the Dolphins couldn't win a game at home to save their lives for most of the year. They also played the AFC South (which wasn't exactly a bunch of superstars as the Colts won the division at 10-6 though it felt more like 8-8) and the AFC West (which was even more wacko than usual). So the schedule did help. They're still a very good team, but the way the Jets manhandled them in the playoffs shows that both sides of their lines need some serious help.
2011 NFL Mock Draft: The Atlanta Falcons Select...
With the twenty-seventh pick of the 2011 CSC Community Mock Draft, the Atlanta Falcons (represented by Dave Choate) select...
Justin Houston, DE/OLB, Georgia
The stars aligned for this pick.
Unless you've been living under a rock - and as Saints fans, it's entirely possible you have been - you've probably heard it mentioned that the Atlanta Falcons need a pass rush upgrade. There's a healthy debate as to whether or not a rookie defensive end should be groomed to replace John Abraham or immediately take over for Kroy Biermann, but either way, the need is definitely there.
Justin Houston fits, and he's becoming the closest thing to a consensus pick in this deep draft class. Having played both linebacker and defensive end at Georgia, Houston has a little versatility and a ton of talent. He's faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a runaway train and has more than twice the pass rushing acumen of a bullet train.
Ultimately, I believe Houston will get a year in the defensive end rotation to get up to NFL game speed. After that, he should be the successor to Abraham, and there is no reason to believe he can't top out as a double digit sack guy at this level. I'm excited to select him.

2011 NFL Mock Draft: The Seattle Seahawks Select...
With the twenty-fifth pick of the 2011 CSC Community Mock Draft, the Seattle Seahawks (represented by natde1016) select...
Colin Kaepernick, QB, University of Nevada
It's quite difficult to predict what the Seahawks are going to do in this draft. They could really use help all over the field, but I believe that their most pressing need is a franchise quarterback. Matt Hasselbeck is 35 and can't stay healthy, while Charlie Whitehurst clearly isn't what the Seahawks brass expected him to be when they traded a 3rd round pick to the Chargers for him before the season. The Seahawks may decide to pursue Vince Young or even try to trade for Kevin Kolb or Carson Palmer. They could even select a non-QB with their 1st round pick, and trade up in the 2nd round to take one. But, because this is a mock draft, none of those were options, so I'm predicting they'll go quarterback.
At this point, even though Blaine Gabbert and Cam Newton are off the board, there are still quite a few QBs left. I had my pick of TCU's Andy Dalton, Florida State's Christian Ponder, Arkansas'Ryan Mallet, University of Washington's Jake Locker, and Kaepernick.
2011 NFL Mock Draft: The New Orleans Saints Select...
With the twenty-fourth pick of the 2011 CSC Community Mock Draft, the New Orleans Saints (represented by Dave Cariello) select...
Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue
This is the moment in our community mock draft that everyone has been waiting for: the Saints first-round selection.
I won't bother going into the teams needs because, well, we know them by heart. Simply put, I thought Kerrigan was the best talent available on the board at a position the Saints could really use improvement. In reality, I'm a little more than worried that Kerrigan won't fall this far in the actual draft.
That's really enough from me. I will let the "experts" do the rest of the talking since I've never seen Kerrigan play one damn down of football in my life and I won't pretend that I have.
