"In fact, we hear Smith will enter the '09 campaign with even more respect from teammates, coaches and the Saints' faithful than he had prior to last season."

It's a fact that after every season, NFL teams begin the process of improving their roster during the long off-season months. These improvements can come about in two different ways: Getting rid of...

Nevermore has the old adage "One mans trash is another mans treasure" been true. Though in this case, I guess it would be "One teams trash..." Regardless, Saints fans were incredibly happy to see Gibbs get fired after another disappointing season for the defense. For the better part of the 2008 campaign Gibbs was blamed for a vanilla defense, a lack of a pass rush and just poor scheme. We may never know whether Gibbs' scheme was actually to blame or whether the Saints really do just lack talent but I think a demotion to position coach may be a better fit and an easier time for Double G; hopefully it won't be as secondary coach. If the Chiefs do pick up Gary Gibbs, I wish your defense the best of luck. You may need it.

Saintsational comments about the Chiefs hiring of Gary Gibbs at Arrowhead Pride Yikes! Looks like us Chiefs fans have reason for worry.

Much too close to home

Rotoworld.com: Ex-Saints defensive coordinator Gary Gibbs is reportedly emerging as a candidate for Todd Haley's staff in Kansas City. It's not known whether Gibbs would serve as defensive coordinator or linebackers coach. Haley and Chiefs GM Scott Pioli are tight with Bill Parcells, with whom Gibbs worked for four years in Dallas. First up: Let's hear it for Gregg Williams!!

1

Rotoworld.com: The Saints will host ex-Jags defensive coordinator Gregg Williams about taking the same position in New Orleans on Thursday. Williams is reportedly on Green Bay and Houston's wish lists as well, but hasn't interviewed in either place yet. An attacking coordinator, Williams was hamstrung a bit working under defensive-minded Jack Del Rio in Jacksonville. There's no real reason to think Williams lost his touch last year. Jan. 7 - 11:58 p.m. ET Source: New Orleans Times-Picayune Gibbs was heavily in the running for Dallas' head job two offseasons ago, but his stock has fallen by the wayside since. While a slew of injuries in the secondary forced Gibbs to use Jason David far more than he would've liked, the Saints haven't covered anyone in three years and the pass rush has been miserable since '06. The Saints' next coordinator will have to get more out of DEs Will Smith and Charles Grant. He'll have respectable talent to work with. Jan. 7 - 5:17 p.m. ET Source: New Orleans Times-Picayune
