Who the (heck) is Matt Baker?

Continuing this week's theme of multiple daily posts, here is a bit of research on newly-signed Saints quarterback Matt Baker, who is expected to play a substantial amount in the upcoming preseason game.

  • Baker signed with Houston as an undrafted free agent following the 2006 draft. He was cut by the texans (ED. Note: Teams that pass on Reggie Bush don't deserve majuscules) at some point, and caught on with the Dallas Cowboys, for whom he served as third-string quarterback during the 2006 season.
  • Prior to his (heretofore) unremarkable pro career, Baker was a bit of a legend at the University of North Carolina, where majored in economics. Baker saw time in four seasons, though he never started regularly until 2005, his senior year. During that season, the Tar Heels went 5-6, while Baker threw for a Sesame Street-esque 2,345 yards. Baker was also named one of Maxim's 50 Sexiest Collegiate Athletes, which is a bit confusing since Maxim is supposed to be a men's magazine (on second thought, Maxim is the one who is confused). Hence, Baker inspired some riduculously fawning prose.
  • Finally, for those who aren't satiated, an interview with the man himself.
