Saints Training Camp Update - Day 3 (Afternoon)

Okay, here we go for another round of training camp updates.

Fox 40 once again has the latest goings on with the offense and the defense. I will continue to update these with pertinent info as needed, so be sure to keep checking back. Check out Fox 40 for the entire thing.

Here are some of the highlights from the offense

4:17 p.m. Really good sign, Deuce McAllister is walking onto the field in shorts and pads, looking like he's going to work out. Deuce missed all of this morning's practice and was supposed to have an MRI on his knee earlier in the afternoon.

4:30 p.m. The trend continues for Jeremy Shockey: he works out pretty hard in the morning and then takes it easier in the afternoon. Shockey is out here but without shoulder pads on like the rest of the guys.

4:36 p.m. McAllister just took his first hand-off of the practice. It's hard to tell how the knee is because they are just going about half speed right now.

4:51 p.m McAllister just caught a screen pass and although it wasn't full speed he looked pretty smooth running down the field. He does have a brace over that left knee.

5:11 p.m. The fan favorite 11-on-11 drills are back going and the first play McAllister took a hand-off and looked pretty good taking it over the right side. A chorus of Deuce cheers rang through the crowd. The next play Lance Moore made a great adjustment on a ball thrown behind him to make a long catch. Three's a charm, the next play Brees hit Devery Henderson over the middle.

5:29 p.m. Kicking competition is back on, Martin Gramatica just hit all three of his attempts. Taylor Mehlhaff did the same and his ball has a distinct slice to it. Coach Payton was right there watching very closely.

5:32 p.m. In kick return drills the main return men are Pierre Thomas, Chris Barclay, Skyler Green and Devery Henderson.

5:44 p.m. We may have your play of the practices: after dropping the snap Mark Brunell regained control and found Reggie Bush flashing down the sideline for a long completion. Bush burned linebacker Mark Simoneau on the play. If the Saints can find mismatches like that this season, Bush will have a huge year catching passes.

And of course the defense

4:36 PM Tracy Porter is doing walk-throughs with the second team defense. At the mid-day presser he said he was feeling comfortable, but this is still only his third practice.

5:06 PM DT Brian Young is on the stationary bike, with knee problems. Coach Payton said earlier his left knee had to be drained.

5:37 PM Their back to 11 on 11, and Jason David is out there with the first team and just got a roar from the fans after breaking up a pass Drew Brees pass with some tight coverage on his receiver.

Thats it for today.
