With the fifth pick in the Canal Street Chronicles community mock draft, the Cleveland Browns select...
Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas
Disappointed by the Chiefs selection of Aaron Curry, the Browns have to resort to Plan B to address their need at outside linebacker. I truly believe the Browns will try their hardest to trade down and draft their pass rusher later (Sintim? English?) but it most likely will not happen as there is no player worthy of a team trading up for at the #5 spot. Last season the Browns got just 8.0 sacks from their outside linebackers, so it's obvious they need immediate help in that department. Brian Orakpo is often referred to as a "Workout Warrior" and while there is no question he is an extremely impressive physical specimen it's not like his hard work hasn't shown up on the field as well. As a senior he was a dominant force for the Longhorns, racking up 19.0 TFL and 11.5 Sacks en route to winning the Nagurski Trophy (nation's top defensive player), Lombardi Award (nation's top lineman) and the Hendricks Award (nation's top defensive end). In last year's draft new Browns head coach Eric Mangini selected Vernon Gholston 6th overall and while that didn't work out he may be inclined to try his luck again as Orakpo and Kamerion Wimbley could become a dynamic pass rushing duo that the Browns need in order to compete.
The Cincinnati Bengals are now on the clock...
