Who cares if Drew Brees was playing with a torn MCL for six weeks this past season? You can't possibly be surprised by Sean Payton's tactical deceit; surprised that he admitted yesterday Brees had actually suffered a low-grade MCL sprain after saying, at the time, that MRI's were negative and reports of a more serious injury were 'completely false.' Payton would never lie.
Who cares that Drew threw ten interceptions in that supposed six-game span between Week Four and Week Nine? He still threw another ten interceptions in the final seven games.
Who cares if Brees wasn't listed on enough injury reports? He never missed a snap in practice or a game. It wasn't even serious enough for him to wear a knee brace the entire time. A better question would be Why the hell did Payton even bother listing him on the injury reports in Week Five, Week Six and Week Seven to begin with? Quite surprising for the coach. In fact, that's the most forthcoming he's ever been with such a high-profile player.
Who cares if everyone, fans and media alike, dismissed Kenny Wilkerson's early reports on WIST that Drew had a strained MCL? Our own Kevin Held reported very similar things at the same time on our weekly radio show. If you didn't want to believe Kenny, you could have at least listened to Kevin.
But what the hell gives with Heath Evans lately? He's gone rogue. In one week, he's called a former coach stupid and now aired the Saints dirty laundry unnecessarily on national television. I love his honesty and straight-shooting; we don't get enough of that anymore. But if he's not careful, his mouth is gonna get his butt in trouble if it hasn't already. Because if I know Sean Payton - and I don't - he's probably not too happy about Evans blowing his cover and having to admit the whole Brees MCL injury after the fact.
Is there a reason Evans has been so outspoken recently? Does the unrestricted free agent know he won't be back with the Saints next season? Is there a hidden agenda? Or do nerves simply take over and cause verbal diarrhea when Heath gets in front of the microphone or camera?
On second thought: who cares? The truth is refreshing. Here's hoping he continues to honestly and publicly shoot off at the mouth because there are still so many unanswered questions. Did Pierre Thomas really cut his knee on a fence while rescuing his dog? How much Vicodin do Sean Payton and Joe Vitt need to get through the day? Does Shockey really have a relationship with Traci Lords? I'm ready to sit down and talk whenever you are, Mr. Evans. Let's do this Barbara Walters style. Email me!
