The New Orleans Saints announced yesterday that they would be promoting assistant Tony Oden to Secondary Coach, filling the void created when Dennis Allen left to become the Broncos defensive coordinator.
Coach Sean Payton confirmed the news to NewOrleans.com:
"Oden has been a tireless worker and is a very talented staff member. Whenever we can promote from within, we feel it pays big dividends,"
You'll remember last month that I suggested former Titans defensive coordinator Chuck Cecil for the job after Payton announced the team would take it's time with the decision. That obviously didn't happen. Props, however, to Jeff Duncan and Larry Holder, who nailed their early predictions that Oden was the most likely successor.
The Saints haven't updated their website to reflect the change as of the writing of this post but you can learn more about Oden from his page there.
Any thoughts? His coaching career can be found after the jump.
