With the second pick of the 2011 CSC Community Mock Draft, the Denver Broncos (represented by Jeff.l.b) select...
Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama
The needs of the Denver Broncos existed long before John Fox took over as head coach to lead the way for John Elway's new regime as vice president. With Fox preparing for a switch back to the 4-3 defense, one huge glaring weakness shows on paper: defensive tackle. Denver already released two of their main rotational DT's a few weeks ago in Jamal Williams and Justin Bannan, two players that helped contribute to the 32nd ranked defense, 31st versus the run. Not only does John Fox need to find a starting defensive tackle in this year's draft....he needs to find two. The first of those needs gets filled by Alabama's Marcell Dareus.
Marcell Dareus is a monster at over 6'3" and 319 lbs. He's a thick-bodied defensive tackle who anchors against the run better than anyone in this year's draft. Combine that with with a ridiculously quick first step and closing speed that belies Dareus' size and you have a versatile tackle who is more than capable of playing any interior position that Fox chooses. He's a relentless motor, high character individual with a great work ethic. Even better for the Nick Fairley lovers out there, Dareus is neither a one year wonder nor a worry off the field with how he'll handle a big money contract.
With Marcell Dareus, what you see is what you get, perhaps the best football player in this year's draft. John Fox will be ecstatic to have him.
The Buffalo Bills are now on the clock...
