Earlier this morning Toronto councillor Doug Ford caused a firestorm in Who Dat Nation when an article over at The Score reported that he was anxious for an NFL franchise and that New Orleans was on the short list of candidates ripe for relocation to Canada.
But, apparently, the whole situation was just a misunderstanding and the city of Toronto has no intentions of stealing New Orleans' NFL franchise. I spoke with Mr. Ford, who was very apologetic, over the phone a few minutes ago and he had this to say:
"I sincerely apologize. The people from New Orleans have been through some tough times the last few years and that's the last thing they need is for their team to move out. It happened once and we wouldn't want it to happen again. All the folks from Louisiana are great, great people."
Not that any of us were really worried about the preposterous idea of the Saints moving to Toronto but it's nice to get an honest retraction.
"That's the last thing we would ever want to do...by no means would we want to do that," said Ford.
And now, back to your regularly scheduled lockout.
