Mile High Meltdown: Saints Stomped by Broncos 34-14

"This doesn't even look like the Saints." - Cris Colinsworth

Dustin Bradford

The New Orleans Saints were embarrassed by the Denver Broncos in front of a national audience on Sunday Night Football, losing by a score of 34-14.

Giving up 34 points to Peyton Manning and the Broncos shouldn't come as a surprise considering what we know about this Saints defense. But the offense only scoring 14, including a garbage time touchdown pass to Jimmy Graham late in the 4th quarter, is what's most shocking about this loss.

Here's just a few reasons it all went so horribly wrong for the Saints tonight:

  • Offense went 1/12 for 8% on third down. That's just god awful.
  • Key dropped passes by Devery, Graham and Lance.
  • Offensive line didn't give Drew enough time.
  • Poor coverage by the secondary, especially Patrick Robinson.
  • Horrid tackling.
  • You know it's not going to be a good night when the Saints defensive player of the game is Martez Wilson's helmet, which was responsible for temporarily injuring Peyton Manning's thumb nail.

You can pretty much kiss any chance of making the playoffs goodbye. At least the Saints can still be the first to spoil the Falcons undefeated season.
