Is 49ers Linebacking Corps Modern Version of the Dome Patrol?

I hate to give too much praise to Saints opponents but the 49ers linebacking corps may be the NFL's best since the Dome Patrol.

I hate to give too much praise to Saints opponents. It's not like I'm a player or coach and I'm doing so as part of a larger strategy to trick them into becoming overconfident should a possible rematch occur. Although this year I would say that a playoff rematch is not likely. As a fan, complimenting the Saints opponents really just feels like I'm kissing their ass. Especially if I'm doing it now after they have already beaten the Saints.

However, I must say this and maybe some Saints can appreciate it and others will consider it blasphemy. But the 49ers linebacking corps seems very similar to the Dome Patrol. I'm not implying that the 49ers linebackers have identical playing styles to Jackson, Swilling, Mills and Johnson, just the way they play as a unit seems very similar. In fact they may be the NFL's best linebacking corps since the Dome Patrol.

Whether you think the 49ers linebackers resemble the Dome Patrol or not, it would be hard to argue that they are not very good. In addition to talented players, there's also another very good reason for this. Most of you may already know this but the 49ers defensive coordinator is former Saints linebacker coach from the Dome Patrol era, Vic Fangio. His Dome Patrol imprint on Ahmad Brooks, Patrick Willis, NaVorro Bowman and Aldon Smith seems evident to me.

If you could trade for one of the 49ers linebackers to play for the Saints who would it be? Feel free to also comment below which Saints defender you would trade for them. While the Saints defense did a decent job against the 49ers offense, it has been made obvious they need a defensive upgrade.
