Saints Sink Buccaneers in Dominating 41-0 Win

Where has this Saints team been all season? Both the Saints and Bucs move to 6-8 on the season.

Chris Graythen

Cue the domination music! That track pretty much sums up how I feel after this game and especially after how Roger Goodell got stiff-armed in the face by Paul Tagliabue's vacating of the Bountyfarce player suspensions earlier in the week.

Onto today's complete and utter beat-down of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Click here for my first half recap. In short, Drew Brees was on fire with 3 first half TD passes to David Thomas, Darren Sproles, and Lance Moore in that order. The Bucs were never able to set sail at any point during this game.

The second half was much like the first up until the point where Drew and Co. backed off the gas and resorted to mostly running out the clock. Here's a quick breakdown of the second half.

  • Bucs first drive ended on INT by Isa Abdul-Quddus in Saints territory.
  • Brees drives Saints to Joe Morgan TD catch - 31-0.
  • Bucs turn it over on downs deep in Saints territory after 4th and long.
  • Saints punt
  • Another Bucs turnover on downs in Saints territory
  • Saints punt
  • Another Jabari Greer INT; 4th INT of the game for Josh Freeman
  • Saints drive to Garrett Hartley FG - 34-0
  • Bucs drive ends on Cameron Jordon fumble recovery; 5th takeaway of the game for Saints D.
  • Saints drive to Mark Ingram TD run - 41-0
  • Josh Freeman comes out of game as QB Dan Orlovsky and Bucs launch a failed attempt to put some garbage time points on the board. Final - SAINTS 41, bucs 0

TOTAL DOMINATION! Here are some quick thoughts on today's win:

  • This may have been Drew's best game of the season. He's clearly not thinking about just ending the year. He looked very sharp and focused.
  • Even after the previous three losses, it seems Spag's D is slowly improving. Will that carry over into next season?
  • The Bucs looked horrible, so I'm not getting too excited over the Saints' performance.
  • Did the absence of Malcolm Jenkins help our secondary by giving Abdul-Quddus and others more playing time? I prefer to think their big day was mostly due to Josh Freeman's poor decisions and bad passes.
  • The Saints now move to 2nd place in NFC South standings. WooHoo! Well, not really.
