With their first pick of the 2012 NFL Draft and the 89th overall, the New Orleans Saints have selected defensive tackle Akiem Hicks from Regina.
Hicks was actually the player Mel Kiper mocked for the Saints in this slow. I'm glad to see the Saints address a position of need with their highest pick in this year's draft. He will join Sedrick Ellis and Brodrick Bunkley in the middle of the defensive line, though some analysts think Hicks can also play the outside.
Saints fans might remember that Akiem Hicks was recruited by LSU but eventually made the move to Regina, Canada.
Here is what coach Joe Vitt had to say about Hicks:
He's raw, we love his work ethic. Excited about him. Big body player. If sean were here we'd probably have an offense player.
What do you guys think?
The Saints will be on the clock again tomorrow in the fourth round with the 122nd overall pick.
