2012 NFL Mock Draft: The Jacksonville Jaguars Select...

With the seventh pick of the 2012 CSC Community Mock Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars (chosen by AcquiredPanic) select...

Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame

The Jaguars could not have done any worse on the offensive side of the ball last year. They ranked dead last in YPG and passing YPG so it shouldn't come as a shock that they only averaged 15 points per game en route to a 5-11 season. They have put their faith into last year's first rounder, quarterback Blaine Gabbert, for at least one more season and they now have to give the guy somebody to throw the ball to.

Jacksonville does not have a number one receiver and in all honesty, they might not even have a number two. Their leading receiver last year came in the form of TE Marcedes Lewis and he only managed 460 yards. All of the previously mentioned stats have to change and I think taking WR Michael Floyd out of Notre Dame is the first step in the right direction.

I would argue that Michael Floyd is the better fit for the Jags even though Justin Blackmon is rated as the number one receiver in the draft. At nearly 6 foot 3 and 220 pounds, Floyd is big and would provide Gabbert with an excellent target to throw to. Floyd also didn't have the benefit of having an elite quarterback last season and still put up solid numbers. He caught 100 balls for 1,147 yards and 9 touchdowns from three different quarterbacks.

There is risk involved in that recent Notre Dame players typically haven't transitioned well to the NFL but I think it is a risk that the Jags have to to take since Blaine Gabbert's future as a Jaguar might come down to how he performs this season.

Thanks to all the CSC members who participated in this years community mock draft. Without your help, none of this would be possible.
