Report: Saints Release DT Mitch King

According to this twitter exchange (which includes report of a team confirmation at the end) from a "kind of surprised" NFL Reporter/Radio Host Adam Caplan and cbssports.com's Larry Holder, the New Orleans Saints have released DT Mitch King.

Adam Caplan ‏@caplannfl

The #Saints waived DT Mitch King late this week. He passed through waivers, so he's free to sign with another team.

Adam Caplan ‏@caplannfl

Kind of surprised the #Saints cut Mitch King. Always thought he had some upside as a 4th DT.

Larry Holder ‏@LHolderCBS

@caplannfl King probably sat fifth on depth chart behind Bunkley, Ellis, Tom Johnson, Ayodele.

Adam Caplan ‏@caplannfl

True, but thought he'd make it to camp. RT @LHolderCBS: @caplannfl King probably sat fifth on depth (cont) http://tl.gd/hlrr5

Larry Holder ‏@LHolderCBS

@caplannfl Agree with you there.

Larry Holder ‏@LHolderCBS

As first noted by @caplannfl, #Saints have confirmed that DT Mitch King has been waived.

What do you think CSC/Who Dat Nation? Are you surprised? Is this big news, or little news?

UPDATE (4:51 pm EST): Now includes nola.com blurb after the jump.

As promised, from the nola.com:

The New Orleans Saints have released reserve defensive tackle Mitch King. The team did not announce the move but the undrafted player from Iowa is no longer on the team's official roster.

...and there's your "team confirmation." We'll see how this holds up over time.
