The player personnel department of the New Orleans Saints is continuing to stay on the job on this holiday weekend as the team has announced that they have signed CB Jerome Murphy off waivers from the St. Louis Rams.

The news appeared on the Saints official team site, and then was brought to us first in a Fanshot by NOLA Jill.

Here's the lead from the news release...

The New Orleans Saints' Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced today the team has claimed CB Jerome Murphy off of waivers from the St. Louis Rams and released CB Elbert Mack.

Depth for the secondary, and a known quantity for Steve Spagnuolo to utilize in the Saints' new-look defense. Does anything else need to be said about this move? If so, you know where to do it...(oh, and after the jump you'll find bio info on Murphy)

Here's the dish on his NFL career, from the same news release:

Murphy, 6-0, 200, is a third-year cornerback from the University of South Florida, who originally was a third round draft pick of the St. Louis Rams in the 2010 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, the Elizabeth, N.J. native played in 14 games for the Rams and posted 30 tackles (17 solo), one interception, two pass defenses, seven special teams stops and one special teams fumble recovery. He missed the entire 2011 season with an ankle injury.
