Your daily collection of New Orleans Saints news and opinion. TODAY'S HEADLINE - NFL & NFLRA are reportedly close to a deal

Derick E. Hingle-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

TWEETS:

Before last lockout ended, owners celebrated deal while plyrs claimed they hadn't even seen proposal.Let's hope they skip that part this time

The NFL hasn't ruled out having the real refs on the field for TNF. In fact, it's a motivator for them, b/c they want to avoid inequities.

So there's TNF, and this -- byes (IND, PIT) start this week. At this point, all 32 teams have 3 games w/replacements. Equality is important.

Also, the sides have been meeting since just before 10 a.m., so about six hours now. I'd bet it'll keep going for some time.

Asked if Packers could be distracted this week with how the MNF game ended, Brees smiled & said "I hope so, but I doubt it"

Brees on playing in Lambeau Field on Sunday: “I relish the opportunity to go to places like that”

Brees: "If replacement officials are calling the game Sunday so be it. We will play the game the same way"

Kromer: WE ARE TERRIBLE BECAUSE DISTRACTION AND TRAINING CAMP SUCKED AND DREW BREES IS A VAMPIRE AND SOLAR ECLIPSES, ALSO THE OFFENSIVE LINE

The Saints released WR Greg Camarillo and activated LB Ramon Humber from reserve/suspended list

Today's Saints Injury Report-> Did Not Practice: McBride (ankle), Hawthorne (hamstring), Casillas (neck)

Fran Tarkenton said on Fox News that Broncos LB Joe Mays, who had a Van Gogh hit on Matt Schaub, "should have been suspended for one year."

Fans hate you too, Jeff RT : So complaints about NFL officiating will end forever now? Not a peep starting this weekend?

Seriously, Jeff Duncan, sportswriter, f***ing hates sports fans. I would be a petty, miserable s*** too.

There will be debate and back-and-forth about how close the NFL is to deal w/refs. And until its over, it ain't over. But...

Bottom Line: things would have to totally fall apart for replacement refs to work beyond Week 4, if in fact they're even on job come Sunday

League is not pursuing any discipline for any of the player Tweets following Monday night's officiating decision.

You can't blame the replacement officials! It's a very hard job and the NFL knew that! The integrity of the game just took 2 steps back

How Much bigger has Ed Hochuli gotten from this time off?? Only time will tell

Having done this before, everyone needs to wait until the ink is dry.

Asked NFLRA source about idea that deal is done -- "Absolutely false" ... But they're getting closer, have made plenty of progress.

Have yet to hear that a deal between NFL and the refs is complete. Certainly heading in that direction, getting close.

Here's our latest update on the officials: Agreement was reached on backup crews. Pension still needs work.

NFL, referees still not close to deal; Ed Hochuli has prepped refs for immediate return - Peter King - SI.com
Ed Hochuli is perhaps the most famous of the National Football League's 121 regular officials, and if a new contract with the locked-out officials gets done within the next 24 hours, American football fans will owe him a debt of thanks -- because the prep work of Hochuli will be a key for the real refs to hit the ground running, starting with Sunday's 13 NFL games.
