Saints Fans Petition White House to Force Return of 2nd Round Draft Pick

Nothing short of an executive order could make Roger Goodell give the Saints their 2nd round draft pick back this year. So that's what we're trying to get.

Pete Marovich

The fines have been paid, the suspensions served or vacated. One stolen draft pick later and there is but one final pick to surrender in this year's NFL Draft, before all of commissioner Roger Goodell's Bountygate punishments are completely served and this freakin' nightmare can be put to bed.

For Saints fans, 2012 will forever be known as the Year of Bountygate; a season stolen unfairly and unsquarely by Goodell. Can't we just leave it at that? Do we really have to drag 2013 into this mess?

The Saints have already paid their dues. Some might even argue more than their fair share of dues. Paul Tagliabue admitted in his appeal ruling that the coaching suspensions alone "represented a severe competitive penalty for the Saints' team, its fans and indirectly for the New Orleans/Gulf Coast region." The loss of yet another draft pick this year, well it's just overkill.

I don't think it unreasonable to revisit Goodell's forced draft pick forfeiture, in light of everything we now know since he first announced his Bountygate sanctions. Paul Tagliabue would probably agree. Goodell could do the right thing and show some leniency.

But we know he won't. So your crazy cronies at Canal Street Chronicles are attempting to go over Goodell's head and appeal to a higher power. Which is why we've started this official White House petition - the brainchild of the incomparable Ralph Malbrough - asking the president to get involved.

Please sign it and share it via your favorite social media outlet. If it reaches 100,000 signatures (the new requirement), the White House must acknowledge our request.

The petition to build a real life Death Star may have gotten blown up (pun totally freakin' intended) and Piers Morgan still lives among us, but there's no reason why Goodell should still get to act like a tyrannical douche.
