As we wait for our New Orleans Saints to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday Night Football, the most relevant game to the NFC playoff picture this early afternoon should be Philadelphia Eagles (7-5) hosting the Detroit Lions (7-5).
With the Eagles currently tying the Dallas Cowboys (7-5) for control of the NFC East, a victory by the Philadelphia home team would put them in control of the division, unless and until the Cowboys beat the Chicago Bears (6-6) on Monday night. The loss by Detroit would also give the Bears a chance to tie for control of the NFC North by winning at home on Monday night, though they currently lose the tiebreaker to the Lions.
Conversely, a Lions win today would solidify the current leadership of both the NFC North and NFC East.
