NFL Draft 2013: New Orleans Saints Look at Kiki Alonso and Brendan Melanophy

Saints express interest in two prospects on a visit to several Pro Days.

In the mass of recent Pro Days leading up to the 2013 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints have taken an interest in two prospects according to WalterFootball.com., LB Kiko Alonso (Oregon) and S Brendan Melanophy (Fordham).

Alonso is considered to be an inside linebacker best suited for playing the middle position. His best year appeared to be his senior one where he had 81 tackles (14 for a loss), four interceptions, and two forced fumbles.

While considered a good linebacker, the main knocks on him are the torn ACL he suffered 2010 and his arrest in spring of 2011 for breaking into an apartment and passing out after drinking. He reportedly performed well at Oregon's Pro Day and is considered a 3rd to 4th round pick.

Melanophy garnered the name "White Lightning" as a Fordham Ram and for good reason. The 6'1" 209 lbs. strong safety ran a 4.50 at his recent Pro Day while benching 19 reps, 10'06" broad jump, and a 36" vertical jump.

No doubt an under the radar player, Melanophy has snagged over four interceptions in his career and at least 117 tackles. Most likely an undrafted free agent, if Melanophy is signed by the Saints he would join fellow Ram safety Isa Abdul-Quddus, who has turned into a good player in the secondary for the Saints.
