In news that has eluded me all day, the New Orleans Saints have apparently tendered restricted free agent center Brian de la Puente at the second-round level.
While surfing the net tonight checking for new info on any possible tampering, I came across this headline from a SATURDAY AFTERNOON BLOG POST by Sheldon Mickles of theadvocate.com:
Saints agree with Galette, offer tenders to two other RFAs
and after taking off my shoes to count high enough, I realized that so far I had only reported on ONE RFA getting tendered by the Saints (Tusk!). "Dang!" I thought, "What have I missed???" (invoking the name of Dang Hu Dat always helps me think)
Clicking through on the headline link showed me this money paragraph:
The club announced that defensive end-turned-linebacker Junior Galette agreed to a three-year contract and General Manager Mickey Loomis later confirmed that center Brian de la Puente and running back Chris Ivory were extended second-round tender offers.
Ah ha! There you have it...they also tendered that Portuguese kid at center.
Pat Y. covered this same ground in A QUICKIE STORY FROM THIS MORNING on espn.com. Again, I'm wondering how this bit avoided me all day long.
So, as an overall FA update, this leaves the Saints with one RFA who has not been tendered yet, LS Justin Drescher, and a whole lot of UFAs who could be getting tampered with right now.
