I don't know about you guys but the arrival of Rob Ryan as defensive coordinator and the subsequent switch to a 3-4 defense for the Saints has made this off-season extra exciting. Am I right or am I right? There's so much wonderful uncertainty I can hardly contain myself.
Slowly but surely this Saints defense is transforming right in front of our eyes. With the NFL Draft and plenty of free agency still remaining, however, even more changes are still to come. But let's pause all that talk for a moment and take stock of this defense as it stands now. Let's see how all these changes look where it matters most...on paper.
With a new coordinator and new scheme it's difficult to predict just how this new defense will look. This early in the game, there are still so many questions. Where do we put Junior Galette (I've got him at DE)? Does Akiem Hicks move to the outside (I've got him at DE)? Should we just remove Greg Romeus' name now? Who the hell is Austin Johnson?
Looking forward to the answers of these questions is exactly what makes this off-season more exciting than usual. Until then we can only speculate. So here is my take on the current Saints depth chart for defense. I fully expect this to ignite a lively debate.
Who needs to move where? Which position still needs serious upgrading? That's where you come in. Talk amongst yourselves.
