2013 NFL Draft Results: New Orleans Saints Defensive Depth Chart Update

Now that the Saints defensive roster is almost completely set for training camp, let's see how it all looks on paper.

Scott Cunningham

With the 2013 NFL Draft and the initial frenzy of undrafted free agency both complete, the New Orleans Saints roster is pretty much set for the remainder of the off-season, give or take a couple of random signings here or there.

That means we can realistically start thinking about the depth chart. So let's lay it all out and see just how this brand spankin' new Saints defense is shaping up on paper. This is pretty much how the defense will look once training camp starts in August.

Here are a few notes on my makeshift depth chart before we start the discussion:

  • I'm assuming all draft picks and undrafted free agents get signed.
  • Might Will Smith make the move to outside linebacker a la Dwight Freeney?
  • Along the same lines, would Greg Romeus also be asked to move to OLB?
  • I don't think Tom Johnson and Tyrunn Walker have the appropriate size to play traditional NT. They may be on the outside, looking in.
  • Would Malcolm Jenkins ever get moved back to cornerback?
  • It's a little difficult to pin down the specific safety positions because some players are flexible. For example, Jim Leonhard can play both strong and free.
