New Orleans Saints safety Roman Harper has signed a new contract, first reported by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and confirmed by league sources.
#Saints S Roman Harper signed a extension that includes $4M fully guaranteed in Year 1. Was set to make $5.25M in '13. No full details yet— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) May 24, 2013
Well it's about damn time! We all knew this had to be coming. That would explain Harper's late arrival to yesterday's OTA practice.
Looks like Harper is definitely in the plans for the future, much to the disappointment of those Saints fans who were hoping the team would outright cut him instead.
The new deal extends Harper through the 2015 season, which should help the Saints financially by spreading out the money. Harper was set to have a $7.1 million salary cap figure, including a base salary of $5.25 million of which more than $2.5 million would have been guaranteed on the third day of the league year.
Harper's new contract has him earning $840,000 as his 2013 base salary, $2.35 million in 2014, and $2.7 million in 2015.
