San Francisco 49ers to Sign Devery Henderson?

Devery is still homeless. But for how long?

Ronald Martinez

The San Francisco 49ers are in the market for another wide receiver to help fill the void left after news the team will be losing Michael Crabtree for a significant amount of time following a torn Achilles.

The team's initial plan to fill the spot is to hold a competition with A.J. Jenkins, Quinton Patton and Ricardo Lockette all in the mix. But ESPN insider John Clayton says there are other options on the free agent market.

I honestly find it surprising that Devery Henderson has thus far received zero interest from other NFL teams looking to sign a competent wide receiver. Sure, that's the homer in me talking. But he's not that bad.

I certainly think he's a decent option for a desperate team. He comes from a well-run, complicated offensive system, he's a good blocker, he won't cost too much and there should still be a little bit left in the tank.

ESPN writer A.J. Mass doesn't necessarily agree with me however.

Of course, Henderson's average year for his nine-season career is just 27 catches for 486 yards and two touchdowns - and that was with Drew Brees slinging the ball his way. I'm not sure that's going to top anything that one of the young guns in Harbaugh's "competition" might end up doing. Besides, as New Orleans GM Mickey Loomis has intimated, guys like Henderson are free agents for a reason.

What do you guys think? Would you be disappointed to see Henderson play in another uniform? Am I building him up too much?
