In the "Silver Linings of the Saints Dreary 2012 Season" department, it was revealed earlier this week that Drew Brees' breaking of Johnny Unitas' consecutive games with a touchdown pass record has been nominated for a 2013 ESPY (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly) award from ESPN. Woo-hoo!!!! Drew Breeeeeeees!!!
He's going up against fellow NFLer Calvin Johnson (single season receiving yards record), high-flying swimmer Michael Phelps (most decorated Olympian), and US Women's Soccer player Abby Wambach (most international goals) for the prize, and here's THE LINK you can chase to go vote for Our Man Breeeeeeeees!!!
This is Breesus's second straight year getting nominated in this category, and as you may recall, he actually won it in 2012, too, when he obliterated Dan Marino's passing yards in a season record. If you can't recall this, just read DAVE'S POST on it to refresh your memory.
Drewsus has been honored quite a bit by the ESPYs. In 2010, following the Saints magical Super Bowl run, he won for Best Male Athlete, Best NFL Player, Best Championship Performance, and as part of the Best Team. He was also part of the crew (along with Scott Fujita, Will Smith, and Reggie Bush) who accepted the 2007 ESPY for Best Moment (which I would imagine had something to do with the reopening of the Dome on MNF).
The 2013 ESPY Awards show will be hosted by Jon Hamm, and airs at 9:00 pm on Wednesday, July 17th, on ESPN.
